How to Install Wildflower Sod™ for Fast, Beautiful Results
Wildflower Sod™ from Meadow Lab is designed to be intentionally easy to install, like conventional grass sod. Follow these steps for optimal meadow establishment:
1. Site Preparation
- Eliminate all grasses, weeds, and previous vegetation
 - Preferred methods: sod-cutting, soil cultivation, smothering, solarization, or chemical treatment
 - Proper preparation takes time

For more in-depth instructions, check out our Wildflower Meadow Site Preparation guide.
2. Sod Arrival
- Install sod within 24 hours of delivery
 - Delivered in rolls or slabs (generally 3–4 lbs per sq. foot, depending on maturity/moisture level at harvest)

3. Prepare the Bed
- Rake site to a fine texture, ensuring at least 4" of loose soil or medium exists
 - Remove rocks, roots, or clods for best root contact

4. Laying Sod
- Lay sod so roots touch soil directly
 - Butt joints together gently; avoid overlapping or creating tension at joints
 - Fill small gaps and edges with Meadow Lab’s Wildflower Soil™ for complete coverage

5. Watering
- Water thoroughly immediately after installation
 - Check soil underneath sod for moisture
 - Continue daily for 2–3 weeks or until sod is fully rooted in

6. Root Check and Maintenance
- After about a week, check root establishment by lifting a corner
 - Once established, only 1–2 maintenance cuts are needed annually
